A Letter from Executive Director Saleem Zaru: UPA’s Response to COVID-19

Dear Friends,

Greetings from Washington D.C. to all our donors, partners, beneficiaries, board members, advisory council members, staff and friends. I hope you are well, although I suspect you are dealing with the challenges caused by the spread of COVID-19.

As the response to COVID-19 continues to take shape, we are closely monitoring local and international reports on the seriousness of its evolving impact. We are working diligently to continue our efforts throughout our different programs. The wellbeing of our beneficiaries and the safety of our staff is always foremost on our minds.

Throughout UPA’s 42 years of service, we have often felt the burden of the responsibility of leadership. Today, once again we are called upon to answer that call. Although we are not in a position to navigate the public health emergency, we are in a position to address the humanitarian and economic repercussions of that emergency in Palestine and the refugee camps in the diaspora.

We will do our best to answer the call of responsibility by demonstrating our commitment to our mission and values, which will help us today as they did in the past through the hardest of times.

Our staff is working diligently with our partners and beneficiaries to identify the best ways to address the needs on the ground efficiently and effectively. We will keep you updated about these efforts.

At UPA, we care deeply about those who are suffering, those whose lives have been negatively impacted, and our hearts go out to the families who have lost loved ones as a result of this terrible pandemic.

Despite the gravity of the situation, we remain hopeful this will be a temporary experience and we are committed to do our share to be socially responsible in that regards.

Thank you for your support. I am proud to be a member of the UPA family.

Sincerely,
Saleem F. Zaru
Executive Director
