Cultivating Hope in the Darkest of Times
Less than two weeks ago, the residents of Gaza felt the earth shake beneath their feet as Israeli airstrikes wreaked havoc across the besieged strip, killing two children and injuring dozens. Violence in Gaza has not ceased since protesters were met with tear gas and live ammunition earlier this year during the Great March of Return. The UN now estimates that 157 civilians in Gaza have been killed, with close to 15,000 injured.
At the time, UPA responded to the Gaza medical sector’s immediate needs as their emergency care system was on the brink of collapse. UPA helped stock hospitals with supplies purchased from the local market and quickly renovated and outfitted storage space into operating and recovery rooms at the Jordanian Field Hospital in Gaza. Most recently, UPA procured, shipped and distributed over $11 million in medical supplies to Gaza through our Emergency Relief Fund.
As the crisis in Gaza continues to unfold, our work on the ground continues in the face of great despair, cultivating hope and livelihood. This work would not be possible without you, our supporters. While we are planning for the upcoming commemoration of UPA’s 40 Years of Service, we continue to monitor, assess, and address the growing needs of Palestinians in Gaza, day by day, one by one.
With gratitude,
