Human Rights Day: Renewed Hope!
On December 10, 1948, the United Nations proclaimed through the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights.”
71 years later, we celebrate this day once again as continuous violations of human rights against Palestinians continue while the world silently watches.
In the meantime, for the last 41 years, UPA continues to work tirelessly to cultivate people’s hope and preserve their dignity. Your gift to UPA today, together with the generosity of others, will help achieve this.
Captain Hisham Wafi, has supported himself and his family as a fisherman at Khan Younis harbor since 2000. Each night he risked his life with the high possibility of colliding with rocks and other boats, getting lost at sea, and being shot at by Israeli patrol boats. In 2015-2016, two deaths occurred as a result of nighttime accidents in the harbor.
In 2018, UPA kept Capt. Hisham and over 750 other Palestinian fishers in the Khan Younis harbor safe by installing a solar-powered lighting system.
“Since this project started in 2018, the number of marine accidents is zero… This project saved lives, saved fishing equipment… Profits have increased,” said Capt. Hisham.
Through your generous support, UPA has already started constructing a new solar-powered lighting system in Deir Al-Balah harbor.
With hope,
