Meet Razan from Bethlehem University!
The pen is mightier than the sword and is the most effective way to resist occupation and injustice. Razan, an Arabic major at Bethlehem University in the West Bank, understands this very well.
“Many students have been assaulted on their way to school or college. They [the occupation] don’t want us to be an educated society nor to be aware of the reality we live in,” she said. “They don’t want us to learn, so we defy them and we persist in our studies.”
Razan is one of the students who received a scholarship from UPA. Without the stress of paying for college, the scholarship eased her financial and mental burdens. She envisions giving back to her Palestinian community after she graduates, and she has confidence that more scholarship support will help her fellow Palestinians overcome their trials.
“I want to thank UPA for assisting and supporting us students.” Razan said, adding that scholarship support gives students the “spirit of motivation and the incentive to achieve in their life.”
UPA’s Mahmoud Darwish scholarship Fund is helping students in eight universities in the West Bank and Gaza. Donate now to support education in Palestine.
