Story by Story…we stand Side by Side
Historically, Palestine was an agrarian society. Food was once abundant and readily accessible. Today, nearly 2 million Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip experience food insecurity.
I invite you to learn more about the relationship between food security, poverty, occupation, and climate change in our lead article. This Ramadan, UPA will address food insecurity, not only through immediate food relief, but also through innovative interventions that lead towards a more sustainable Palestine.
Another theme in the spring issue of UPA Connect is centering the voices of Palestinian youth and lifting up their stories. Sixteen-year-old Nadine shares what life is like when her family farm is under constant threat of confiscation. Her story offers a rare glimpse into the dreams and struggles of a Palestinian teenager in the West Bank.
Another dreamer, thirteen-year-old Khitam from Gaza recently received an award from UNESCO for the short story she wrote about a future where children lead the way in conflict resolution.
In Lebanon, UPA supports storytelling and creative writing for young children in Palestinian refugee camps and gatherings. Mobile libraries deliver exciting new reading materials to their doorsteps, and outdoor rooftop shows bring poetry, music, and theater to thousands while observing COVID-19 precautions.
Enjoy reading these and other articles to gain insight into how UPA’s programs make a difference in Palestinian lives every day of the year. Story by Story…we continue to stand Side by Side.
