The 43rd commemoration of Palestinian Land Day

Land Day is an annual commemoration of the events of March 30, 1976.

In response to the Israeli government’s plans to expropriate thousands of acres of Palestinian land for its use, a general strike and massive peaceful marches took place throughout Palestinian communities. Confrontations with the Israeli army that day resulted in six unarmed Palestinians killed, around one hundred wounded, and several hundred arrested.

The Palestinian calendar recognizes Land Day as a fundamental event in the historic struggle over land, and significant experience in asserting the Palestinian narrative, identity, and existence.

Today is the 43rd commemoration of that day. Every day in the history of the Palestinian struggle for survival is indeed “Land Day.” As the events of March 30, 1976, repeat themselves daily, the struggle for survival goes on, and the dream for a better life stays alive. Most recently, Palestinian protesters initiated the Great March of Return on March 30, 2018. That day is just another event adding to the calendar of Palestinian perseverance (Sumud).

Please give generously. The need is great, and the demand is ever increasing.

Ongoing siege, harsh living conditions, multiple military incursions, and daily violence are typical of life in Gaza. UPA has responded and continues to respond to the growing needs of the medical sector, which has been working beyond capacity. UPA stocks hospitals with vital medical supplies and supports primary care clinics regularly to heal the wounds caused by Israeli tear gas and live ammunition.

To heal emotional wounds that are not as easy to detect, UPA’s Healing through Feeling mental health program is dynamic, effective and internationally recognized.

Your donation to UPA will enable us to continue and expand these lifesaving interventions.

On this 43rd commemoration of Land Day, we think of our Palestinian brothers and sisters who live in constant fear. Prolonged violence and closure have destroyed livelihoods and robbed generations the ability to reach their full potential.

With your support, we are committed to exploring every possible avenue of service. Whether it is delivering food parcels, supporting small businesses, providing mental health services, supplying pharmaceuticals to hospitals or creating safe spaces for children—UPA is committed to alleviating the suffering of all Palestinians and contributing to the long term socio-economic development of Palestinian communities.

Help commemorate Land Day by supporting those reliving the experience every day.

In Solidarity,

The UPA Family
