UPA and IRUSA Enter Partnership to Fortify the Palestinian Medical Sector
UPA is sincerely grateful to IRUSA for their generous grant award in support of the beleaguered Palestinian medical sector. This award will fund a series of interventions at the hospital and primary care level, shoring up emergency department resources, addressing critical equipment needs in hospital maternity wards, and providing primary care clinics with medical supplies and pharmaceuticals to address the health conditions of women, children, and the elderly.
These interventions are coming at a critical moment. Israel’s repeated violent escalations, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the prevalence of cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure, and diabetes have driven up Palestinian demand for healthcare resources in recent years and pushed the Palestinian healthcare system to the brink of collapse. Beyond these stressors, anemia and malnutrition remain major concerns, especially among pregnant women and children, and maternal mortality is egregiously high relative to the surrounding countries. In this climate of heightened need for health services at all levels, the oPt’s two largest healthcare providers – the Ministry of Health and UNRWA – face major funding constraints, making NGO primary healthcare and hospital providers more important than ever.
UPA is already working with several partners on the ground to maximize the impact of these new resources and will soon be providing Makassed Hospital with critically needed supplies.
On behalf of our staff, board of directors, and most importantly, the Palestinian people we serve, UPA thanks IRUSA for their generous partnership and support.
