UPA hosts Thalassemia workshops in the West Bank

UPA recently installed a new MRI software at the Palestine Medical Complex in Ramallah. It is the only program in the region that can help treat those who suffer from Thalassemia. This software allows doctors to detect iron levels in the patient’s organs. Some patients – most notably, thalassemia patients – are prone to deadly iron overloads, but having this software will allow them to get better care.

Earlier this week, we hosted a workshop for medical personnel on how to use the software. Attendees came from 14 different hospitals and institutions, and they are now ready to use the software to benefit their thalassemia patients! This project is possible thanks to the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Thalassemia Patient’s Friends Society.
