Violence erupts again in Gaza
Today, Palestinians are once again taking cover as violence erupts in the Gaza Strip. This recent bombardment that started yesterday has destroyed homes, agricultural lands and farms, according to Al Jazeera. As of this writing, over 20 Palestinians have been killed, and nearly 70 wounded.
Life in Gaza has come to a halt in fear and anticipation of what is yet to come. Consequently, UPA’s activities are at a standstill to protect our staff and their families. The UPA Gaza office is our largest team in the Middle East.
UPA Executive Director Saleem Zaru stresses that: “It is important to keep our focus on the increasing humanitarian needs. We have to take all precautions to avoid risking the safety of our staff on the ground. However, it is ironic that during times of crisis is when our intervention is most needed.”
Right now, we are in communication with our staff and local partners, who are assessing the needs on the ground. We will resume normal activities and deploy emergency relief services as soon as possible. UPA ships and distributes pharmaceuticals and consumables to Gaza regularly.
Ongoing violence puts a massive strain on the Gaza medical sector and forces hospitals to operate beyond their capacity. An increase in casualties can quickly deplete the stock of vital medical supplies—putting the lives of already vulnerable Palestinians at risk. It is imperative that these supplies remain in stock.
For the last 40 years, UPA has been quick to respond to emergencies that the Palestinian people face. From the invasion of Lebanon in 1982 to the 2014 war in Gaza to the Great March of Return in 2018, we have been there, and today is no different. But we cannot continue to meet these demands without your continued financial support.
Together, we stand with the people of Gaza during this challenging time and with your support will continue to do all we can to address the increasing needs on the ground. Please donate generously, every donation makes a difference.
Thank you for your continued support.
With hope,
United Palestinian Appeal
