World Humanitarian Day 2019

On World Humanitarian Day, we honor the achievements of women humanitarians who work on the front lines to bring relief and prosperity to their communities. Often risking their lives, these women have shaped and strengthened global humanitarian responses to crises all around the world, including in Palestine.

So today, we honor the Palestinian women who stand up against injustice and the oppression of their people. We acknowledge the Palestinian women leaders who have galvanized others towards creating meaningful change.

We honor the Palestinian first responders, who risk their lives to provide life-saving treatment to injured Palestinians in conflict zones. We acknowledge the women who have died while performing these duties.

We honor the Palestinian women who provide humanitarian assistance to orphans, refugees, people with disabilities, and other vulnerable people in their communities, even when the odds are against them.

Most of all, we want to honor the women at UPA who work tirelessly to promote Palestinian dignity. Our female mental health practitioners and their support team – Islam, Sabah, Eman, Aya, Yasmine, and Raghad – have brought relief to thousands of parents, teachers, and children suffering from trauma in Gaza.

We recognize our female staff in the West Bank, Jordan, and Lebanon, who are also working to better their people and to provide more effective solutions to the ongoing occupation.

All of these women are heroes among heroes, so today, we celebrate their achievements and recognize their powerful humanitarian impact on our world.
