World Social Justice Day

Today, we are reminded of the Palestinians currently living under blockade in Gaza. Palestinians, who are struggling to make ends meet and who often go hungry so others in their family can eat. UPA strives to create long-term sustainable solutions so that future Palestinians can have the opportunity to survive despite the occupation.

Last Ramadan while delivering food parcels, UPA’s staff spent an afternoon with Ashraf’s family. He lives near the border between Gaza and Israel is currently unable to fully support his family.

Ashraf’s son leg was injured during an Israeli assault and needed amputation—he couldn’t afford crutches for him either.

In addition to being grateful for his food parcel, Ashraf, who lives in an unfurnished makeshift shelter, welcomed the group into his home. It was then that he started to open up for the very first time.

“Because of the bad situation in Gaza and my inability to care for my family I started to have psychological problems,” Ashraf exclaimed. He shared his story as the staff huddled around him on the floor.

He went on to talk about how he is struggling to afford school for his younger children and how is unable to adequately care for his own mother who also lives him and his wife.

“The separation fence between Israel and Gaza has put us in a catastrophic situation because there is no income, “said Ashraf.

Thanks to your support, we can help many Palestinians like Ashraf and on World Social Justice Day, we must also remember that there are others who still need your help.

Consider giving to UPA today, without you, this transformative work would not be possible.
