Psychology in Palestine
Last month, UPA sponsored the Bethlehem University’s Sixth Social Sciences Conference titled “Psychology in Palestine: Reality and Future.” The conference tackled three main issues: psychology in the Palestinian context, problems and mental disorders in Palestine as well as psychological services and community awareness. Hanna Rabah, UPA’s director of programs represented UPA and spoke at the event. “I was very interested in attending this event because it is important to know what the local Palestinian community’s needs are in terms of mental health.”
Representatives from various universities, non-governmental organizations, and ministries, from the West Bank, Gaza working in the field of psychology and mental health attended the conference.
UPA’s Dr. Elmasri Mustafa, director of Healing Through Feeling, highlighted the program’s training of local mental health practitioners, who work with parents and teachers in Gaza kindergartens to help them recognize the signs and symptoms of trauma in children.
“It is important for us to sponsor such events, as it not only to highlight our Healing Through Feeling program among technical peers, but it can also guide us in developing new concepts for our programs,” Hanna said.
